Dr Saxena is a dedicated public health professional and physician with a robust academic foundation and a strong commitment to advancing global health and aging research.
Dr Saxena holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in International Health from Yale University, where their thesis focused on “Quality of Life in the Elderly.” They also earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Medical University of Pécs, Hungary, with a specialisation in General Medicine, completing a thesis titled “Virulence of E. Coli in Urinary Tract Infections.”
Guided by a passion for addressing complex health challenges, Dr Saxena’s research interests centre on globalisation, health, and aging. Their work spans diverse projects, including thesis research exploring the intersection of aging and quality of life.
In addition to academic achievements, Dr Saxena has contributed extensively to impactful public health initiatives, including:
- Developing protocols for the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging.
- Managing research for the Yale Program on Aging’s YEESS Study.
- Overseeing project operations for the Nova Scotia Hepatitis C Link.
- Driving proposal development for the Atlantic Interdisciplinary Research Network.
Internationally, Dr Saxena served as an Experts Group Member for the World Health Organisation’s Investment for Health in Romania and contributed to shaping health policy as a Committee Member for the Future of Public Health in Canada. Locally, they supported public health advocacy as a member of the Board of Directors for the Public Health Association of Nova Scotia.
